INDIA TRIP 3月27日

I'm in Paris. Delta overbooked and we accept their offer to stay here one night and $600 travel credit. However, it turned out that Sunday flight is also full and after 7 hours negotiation, we got $1200 credit and two nights stay in Paris. It seems that Paris doesn't want me to return... I really felt the operation of Delta is messy.

So, my return is Monday night. I have to miss the classes.

By the way, I stayed Kolkata as final destination of my trip. There, I happened to stay Japanese home stay house. The owner lady married with Indian guy was wonderful experience. She was born in Kokura and get radiated by atomic bomb and met his husband on the ship. The accomodation is mainly for the young Japanese who volunteered in Mother Teresa's home facility. I stayed there two nights with a first year unversity student girl.

I joined the volunteer for 4 hours. It was more than shocking experience to me. This is not because I joined the volunteer for the first time. Just because the hygenic and other situation is dreadful as i it were not changed at all when Mother Teresa founded it for her first work about 50 years ago. First, I washed clothes with other volunteers. Of course, it was not hand-foot washing. But, less than 2 meters from there, dishes were washed. THen, I served meals. Due to scarce of food, patients begged to get more food.

The house called "Shyu matsu no ie"=for the people waiting for death. Then, I helped a boy to shit and walk around. I realized what "skinny" means. ( I am not skinny at all!) I don't know what kind of disease he had. But, his eyes looking far away from balcony was so sad.... In the final moment, a old man was brought in. He had Hansenshi-disease and lots of rouses on his foot. People treated him without hesitation.( I heard some of volunteers working long hours get infected.)

What I felt was the volunteer spirit was more than I imagined. They cared patients so eagerly.(Of course, most of volunteers of short period like me are not included.) More than that was just volunteering doesn't solve the problem. Although their earnest work, food is not enough, hygenic environment is miserable. We have to consider this poverty from Macro Econmic level. Kalcutta is occupied by communist governor more than 20 years and left behind other cities and poverty dominates it.

One thing I have to mention is that the owner was very strict to the university student girl. She has stubborn idea what Japanese lady should be and the young girl cannot come up with her expectation. Just 10 minutes before I was leaving for airport, the girl began to cry and the lady angered fiercely. I had to reconcile between them and had to stay 30 minutes more. I wondered why I had to do so...

Today is perfect day. My hotel(Mariott) is fine and with 3 meals. I have to go Champs-Lysees, Tourre de Effel...
